Poetry Inferno - Great Barr High School, Birmingham, 2004

I worked on this one-day project with Kiran Bangerh (English teacher), Paul Coombes (animator) and Ed Whitelaw (sound artist). Taking Dante’s Inferno as inspiration, groups of Yr 7 pupils produced audio and visual material and short sequences during the course of the day. Working only with the pupil’s material the final animation was produced by Paul Coombes and the soundtrack by Iain Armstrong.

70 Sounds of St Hubert’s - St Hubert’s Primary School, Oldbury, 2008

This project was designed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the school. The idea was to create a sound map of the school by recording sounds from 70 different locations.

Working with pupils from Yr 3, 4, 6 I created a map of the school and generated 70 random grid references that were plotted on the school map. The children then recorded a sound and took a photograph of the sound object from each of the 70 locations. Each sound and image were then transferred to postcards that contain a small audio device and arranged around the map linked to their location creating a sound installation in the school.

A small group of pupils also created sound compositions from the sounds they had recorded. An interactive CD rom containing a digital version of the map and the compositions was also produced. Click the image below to view the digital version (please be patient while the file loads).
