For several years I have been developing a live performance practice that centres around a laptop and the live manipulation and mixing of field recordings and other found sounds. Initially I created DJ style mixes of electroacoustic music and electronica but then quickly progressed to creating original music using my own material and processes. I have been interested in devising methods to take my approach to studio composition into a live environment and this includes the live spatialisation of my performance over multiple loudspeakers. My principal performance software is Ableton Live however I also use a custom MAX MSP patch which can be controlled by an ipad, mouse or live input from e.g. a contact microphone. More recently I have begun to use ambisonic tools for spatialisation that are hosted in Reaper. I have performed solo and in collaboration with Antti Saario as Anvil & Stirrup and as a member of the SOUNDkitchen collective; most recently as a duo with Annie Mahtani. I was also a member of BiLE (Birmingham Laptop Ensemble) from 2011-2012.
I have self released recordings of solo performances on Bandcamp. A recording of a SOUNDkitchen performance with Annie Mahtani entitled Ilha Verde.1 is also available on Bandcamp in various multichannel formats. All releases are listed on my Discography page.
