An album of 10 production music tracks focusing on strings in a contemporary cinematic style. Textural string layers are woven together with solo cello, subtle vocals, organic drones and synths, piano and percussion.

These tracks are made with sample libraries from the Pianobook project. Pianobook is a community of composers, musicians and technologists who create uncomplicated sample libraries and share them free of charge. Originally focused on piano samples, this ever expanding library now includes a wide range of instruments and pads. I’ve tried to focus on Pianobook libraries and other free libraries, such as the fantastic Spitfire LABS series, but some tracks do feature content from commercial libraries that I own. This is a suite of pieces that were originally written for the play Jekyll & Hyde by Evan Placey and produced by Birmingham Repertory Theatre. The play required incidental music for complex scene changes, underscore and dramatic movement sequences such as Jekyll’s transformation and a music hall performance. I used a melodic vocal line and instrumental countermelody to represent the Jekyll & Hyde characters and other thematic ideas run through the pieces. You can read more about the production here.
